If indeed I am missing all this stuff where do I get it, or is there a more complete deb, tar etc.
I am a noob so please be kind if I messed up.
Thanks!

My first suggestion is not to trust random .deb packages that you find on the internet. My second suggestion is to attempt to get support from the people providing those random .deb packages if you decide that you feel like trusting them (about which you should see suggestion 1). My third suggestion is to understand that packages are supposed to come from your distribution and whenever you are missing packages you should look to your package management tools for them.

I tend to live on the edge sometimes. I've seen reference to others running pidgin in feisty. If they were being truthful then they found a way. I'm merely seeking that way. Being a noob I have much to learn.
I do thank you for a prompt response.

as for the dependencies, i installed them manually by searching for the packages in synaptic package manager, which is in the gnome menu or typing synaptic in a terminal.

might i suggest a more trusted source of packages for feisty -> http://www.getdeb.net/
as for the dependencies, i installed them manually by searching for the packages in synaptic package manager, which is in the gnome menu or typing synaptic in a terminal.
