ok here's my thoughts on the new pidgin (sorry the other thread was getting too long).
1. at first really didn't like the new icons and same icons for each protocol, but etan is correct because i've kind of got used to it now. it seems sensible that each person should be available, away etc regardless of protocol. (but it was more colourful...)
2. i use a very thin buddy list (about 150 pixels or so it cuts off just after Tools so i cannot even see the about menu). apparently the buddy list is supposed to be LESS uncluttered. however now with mobile buddies i have the available icon, then the name, then the mobile icon, AND then the avatar. before the mobile icon rested on top of the status and this seems less uncluttured to me but thats just my own opinion. with such a thin buddy list the names i see are restricted to, it seems, 9 characters if they are on a mobile. for some reason yahoo still uses the id and not the name that your buddy chooses to put. with some long ids, 9 characters is quite short. but hey i guess i use the buddy list thinner than its supposed to be. it gives me a less cluttered workspace ;)
3. buddies with more than one id grouped together.... this has not really been a problem to me apart from one stinging infuriating issue... since i cannot transfer files using the yahoo protocol (i have forgotten how many times i have asked about that here and no one ever replies so i don't know if its my setup or gaim/pidgin) so if i want to transfer a file to a buddy, before i could just right click their msn id in the buddy list and send the file. now both their yahoo and msn ids have the same icon and the same name so its impossible to tell which is which. that is the only bugbear i have found with the new protocol system. (now, if only someone could just tell me how to get yahoo transfer working...)
4. other than that all good really (nice rounded corners on the avatars :D ) apart from pidgin was crashing a lot more than the betas but i think this was becauase i had guifications 13 instead of 14. i hope so, it seems ok so far...

Regarding issue #3, you can do that right from the chat window. If you are talking to a buddy on Yahoo! but need to send him a file over MSN, click the "send as" button and you can change what protocol you are using without missing a beat.
