Any time I try to connect to MSN or YIM from Gaim, I get "Unable to authenticate: Unable to Connect". On ICQ and AIM I can connect. What is causing this problem, have Yahoo and MSN changed their protocols so that Gaim can't connect?

Which version of Gaim are you using? Also, if you're using Gaim under Windows and have Norton Internet Security, you may need to try the information under "How do I configure Norton Internet Security for Gaim?" in the Gaim Windows FAQ: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/win32/index.php#faq . Do you know if you have the proper ports for MSN and Yahoo set up in your firewall, if you have one?

You need to be using at least version 2.0.0 beta 3.1 of Gaim as, yes, MSN changed things again! The latest version is 2.0.0 beta 5, although I believe that beta 6 is due Real Soon Now...

It seems to me, that I can confirm that; in beta5, too.
Yesterday I created a hotmail.com account. The account is activated, I receive e-mails and I can use the web messenger.
I tried to use gaim on two computers to connect to MSN.
First computer: debian etch, gaim 2.0.0beta5; It tries to connect, but in the end I get the message that gaim "Couldn't authenticate: .NET Messenger Service"
Second computer: debian sarge, gaim 1.2.1; Everything looks good, handshake, start authentication, receive cookies, but then it stops and I get the message, that gaim couln't authenticate and "The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Do one of the following or try again:". Unfortunately, there is no hint what I should try.
But the e-mail address and the password is correct. Perhaps gaim has a problem with my special characters in my choosen password?
Thank you,
So

n0ukf: So, which version of Gaim are you attempting to use? Also, are you sure your firewall isn't set up to deny those ports? Trillian could be using an alternate method to connect to MSN or Yahoo. I couldn't say, because I've never looked at Trillian.

I tried adding those ports to Norton IS like the page said, but I still can't get connected to MSN or YIM with Gaim. Trillian still connects to them.
