i think the setting you are looking for is in chat. the "Auto-Add Suggested Contacts" if you choose the only allow people I've explicity...." that should stop adding 'random people' to your gmail contacts.

so you can delete them if you want, but they will automatically be added. its not like it takes up space of other people, the easiest thing is to probably just block them/remove them like it says.

the GTALK gets its buddy information from the google server, i imagine, hence why when a buddy shows up from the GMail it shows up in gaim. its the same as if you were to add a buddy to your AIM account on GAim and were to then use reuglar or or GAim on another computer, the new buddies would be there.

gaim only recently got more advanced support for Google Talk specific extensions, which is why only recently did gaim start getting the extra Google Talk buddies. If that is what was being referred to here, I hate the sf forum software and I haven't been following this thread.

Are we moving towards beta7 or 2.0 here ? And has there been any significant progress since beta6 ?
Also, any progress on fixing the buddies that magically appear in Gaim after you sending an email to them?
are the buddies that appear on your GTalk? if so its a setting in your account settings whether to add contacts to your 'buddies' list or not.
Hi fishpool,
Do you mean the "Show In Quick Contacts" option? They are set to Never but still show up as Gaim buddies.

Thanks fishpool. I'll give that a try & see what happens.
Well that didn't work. I sent an Gmail to 3 people & they are now on my Gaim Buddies list.
i was incorrect in my previous assumption. heres why

Hold it a sec. The buddies are added to my Gaim buddies list.

But this is new behavior. This is NOT the way Gaim used to work.
gaim only recently got more advanced support for Google Talk specific extensions, which is why only recently did gaim start getting the extra Google Talk buddies. If that is what was being referred to here, I hate the sf forum software and I haven't been following this thread.
The Gaim users that pop up are in my Gmail contacts. Is there a way to stop them from appearing in Gaim after I Gmail someone?
I did some research w/ google (ya gotta love the internet). It looks like it's a known bug

So I'll just wait for it to be fixed.
