Gaim stopped working for me yesterday morning.

I start gaim... then can the process in Task Manager. But the buddy window does not appear (even after waiting 30+ minutes) and I appear offline to my friends.

I'm running gaim-2.0.0beta3 on WinXP Pro SP2 with the default install settings.  I tried downgrading to gaim-1.5.0 but that didn't change the behaviour.

Has this happened to anyone else?  How did you fix it?

You likely have Cygwin (or something that uses Cygwin) in your path. Two options if this is the case:

      a) Remove Cygwin's directory from your PATH.
      b) Delete or change the file extension of Gaim's tcl.dll, located in Gaim's plugins folder.

This should be fixed with 2.0.0beta6, but it's typically not a good idea to pollute your environment with Cygwin, even though some programs rely on it. http://gaim.sf.net/win32/#bugs

That fixed me right up THANK YOU!

I was searching for things like "no window", "troubleshooting", "no buddy list" and the like.  I never would have found that bug report with those :-)
