I'm sure this is easily fixable, but I'm having no luck finding a solution.
Is there a way to keep Pidgin from switching to the newly received message when you're talking to multiple persons in different tabs? This gets annoying when I'm typing to someone and receive an IM from someone else.

You can try experimenting with the Message Notification plugin, too (Plugins > Message Notification). I'm not signed in at the moment (no time to test with two of my contacts :/ ), so I can't see if I can duplicate the behavior, but (in the plugin), do you have the "Raise conversation window" checkbox enabled? (Of course, it wouldn't hurt to make sure all the other settings in that plugin are the way you want them to be...)

Have you tried ticking the box for "Minimize new conversation windows"?
Nope, no luck there. I didn't try this, since the problem is with the tabs switching, not the windows.
