In ICQ I used to be able to type a message one time, and then select multiple recipients. I've never found a way to do this in GAIM (haven't "upgraded" to pidgin yet; Ubuntu apt-get not doing so), so I end up having to copy and paste the message multiple times and then go through and manually send each message.
Am I missing something, or is this just not possible with Gaim/Pidgin?

I know about the plugi-in pack, but having tried to build Pidgin on Windows (and failed -- I got Cygwin and most of the parts downloaded, but some of the downloads kept failing) I've given up. I don't understand why the gorup message plugin doesn't compile by default, when every other IM client I've used has that option. Is there any way to get the plug-in wihtout having to go through the build process?

It is part of the plugin pack. It is called group message. It won't compile by default, but if you know what you are doing that is what you want.
