Yeah, that was a 'feature' (as MS likes to call them) of 0.9.17 that it never relied on the server telling it what it's config (buddy list) is. But that created a bunch of interesting problems and inconveniences so it was changed in 0.9.18 to accept the config from the server (but still not rely on it). (And actually, the behavior in 0.9.18 isn't always correct, and can lead to a segfault - but it's fixed in CVS. Thanks to James Nicolson for pointing that out.)
