    Hi Guys
Ive been using gam for some time now, i love the clean interface and much prefer it to messenger live, Will Gaim ever use a different GTK other then v2.6.10 rev a as i use GIMP also and at the moment it uses 2.5.18-1 last time i cheched Gaim didnt work with the newer GTK's. Is this ever going to get resolved?

Another thing i have noticed also is that when ever i transfer a file via msn its alot slower on Gaim then if i transfer it with Windows Messenger Live, is this a bug or is it someting i have to get used to.

Im a windows gaim user using win xp and gaim-2.0.0beta3.1

One of the core backends that gaim uses was rewritten for glib 2.8.x, and it doesn't work correctly for us, which is why gaim can't use a gtk+ version in the 2.8.x series. I don't know what the status is with getting the gtk+/glib issue worked out.

gaim only implements the through-the-server MSN file transfer method, this method is speed limited. If you want faster MSN file transfers feel free to work on figuring out the protocol for them. (Although it is possible that the SoC work on the newer versions of the MSN protocol will also include this, I don't know if that is the case you would have to ask the student.)

The new version 0.96 of aMSN, released 24th november 2006 has support for direct superfast file transfers. It's written in TCL/TK so it shouldn't be difficult to figure out the protocol from their code. Maybe they have even documented it?

I very much prefer Gaim over aMSN because their interface is butt ugly (mostly because of TK) but I really have to use it now because people send me files all the time... If Gaim supported real MSN file transfer I'd jump up and down out of joy! :)
