Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, but can anyone tell me why ony MSN messenger uses the automatic proxy script defined in internet explorer?
What I mean is, at work we use an automatic configuration script like http://www-proxy.corporate.com:3138/proxy_pac_base.pac defined in internet explorer.

If I use MSN messenger at home or at the office it automatically connects depending on the location either via proxy (work) or direct connection (home).

GAIM and other instant messengers (amsn, trillian, miranda etc. etc.) just cannot handle this situation. Even if I select "use environmental settings" or "use global proxy settings" in GAIM, it just doesn't automatically switch between proxy or non-proxy connection.

OK if it's not possible to switch proxy automatically, how can I "easily" switch between proxy or non proxy connection manually for msn messenger protocol?

I really like to use gaim both at work and at home, but I still haven't found a good alternative for msn messenger...sorry :-S . I also like the GAIM support for "sametime" we use on corporate level too.......sigh....

I believe I'm not the one one having this issue, but maybe there just aren't anough people to have this feature implemented.

best regards, and waiting for response from anyone :-)

Michel
