gaim was sweet, pidgin well, who else besides me can not stand the interface? the green dots are lame, i do not know about any body else, but i liked being able to distinguish people on my buddy list weather they were using aim or msn or w/e.  The green dots have to go.  Pidgin seems to be working better than gaim did but, the interface is lame.

i have to agree with u.
i have been using pidgin for a while now.
i can see what the developers tried to do.
but i think it fails miserably.
they wanted to simplify things, but the icons now become redundant, serve no purpose, and are a waste of space, it doesnt make any difference if they are there or not.
i hope over time they will see sense and put the protocol icons back.
i will put their decision to get rid of the protocol icons down to an honest mistake, people do make mistakes every now and then.

But I LIKE those new icons! They rock! I didn't like them at first, for about an hour, but after that I used to them it seems that it is only right way to icons. It gives one, unified way to say is your buddy online, away, busy or smth else.

If you want to make difference to buddies on acount level add msn/aim/icq to their alias.

the question isnt wether u like them or not - u r easily impressed, they r just circles :-)) , but do they show u additional imformation.
and i dont think they do.
u can untick show offline buddies, and u will know who is online, so what is the point of the icons then, no point at all, at least with the protocol icons u can tell which protocol your friends r using.

All you have to do is hold your mouse over the person's name and it shows what protocol they're on.

in a list of a couple of contacts i can see that might work, but if u have more than a couple, then it quickly becomes a waste of time.
i dont know, maybe there r patent issues or something with using msn, yahoo icons, in which case it wouldnt be too difficult to make new protcol icons.

I'm sure the developers are thinking of something to do. Maybe it will become an optional feature. But until then, I will stick with Gaim.
