This is a joke. You developers are a joke. F you. Seriously. You don't care about making intuitive software for others to use. You could care less if everyone was using MSN messenger and 2 people were using your piece of garbage. That's the problem with F/OSS in general. This idiotic attitute that we're just doing this for ourselves, and for our community the rest of you can go F yourselves. F you as*hole. Stop pretending that you're crap is useful. It's garbage. Think about others for a change. Think about doing something good for a change and get people to start using real software instead of crap. You're not real software developers. Go to hell.

This is a far more valid opinion than most that I've seen here. I have only one correction: lots of open source projects are developed with many different intentions. It's unfair to generalize *all* "F/OSS" software as being like Gaim. There are plenty of projects that would be willing to bend over backwards to make you happy.

Very true, Sean.  There are a number of F/OSS projects that have given me problems, or not lived up to expectations.  On the other hand, I've been a Windows user for years, and Windows and Office often fail to live up to expectations, either.

So, I certainly would not judge all F/OSS software as "being like Gaim".  A lot of it doesn't work, or is still very much a work in progress.  That's par for the course with F/OSS, and expected since a lot of OSS projects never leave beta.  Of course, I have paid some serious coin for commercial software that should never have left beta, either.  At least the F/OSS stuff only cost me time to try out.

Gaim, on the other hand, has been my one and only IM client for two years now, and at this point you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands to take it away from me (and I might even resurrect from the dead just long enough to slap anyone who continues to try and take it away).

Gaim is on my "short list" with Firefox, Thunderbird, GIMP, Freemind, and xUbuntu as "F/OSS Projects that have redefined my expectations."  That is to say - they have so far exceeded my expectations of what I thought was possible in their respective areas that they have raised my expectations for all software that performs similar tasks, F/OSS *OR* commercial.

Same here. I can't go back to AIM anymore, gaim is just so much better. I don't think there's anything wrong with you developers, please ignore these idiots and keep developing gaim. I first saw gaim when I was toying around with linux, on a Knoppix cd. Even though Linux didn't work out for me (it's a family computer, and it's always booted into Windows so even though I have slackware on it I never use it, and I couldn't get 3D acceleration to work except one time when I eventually killed my X) I love gaim for it's general not suckiness, and overall polish. I'm guessing another beta is due soon, since there haven't been any checkins (according to CIA) for 11 days. I look forward to it a lot, because I've been watching the SVN commit log. Sounds neat.

It's actually laughable that you would call the thousands of hours of combined work that the develops have put into Gaim "selfish". Anyway, no software is going to please every user. A lot of people absolutely love Winamp, but I just don't. But then again, Winamp is free and I don't have to use it, so I can't complain about it.

Gaim is useful for enough people to justify the decisions the developers made. Verbally abusing the creators of software you are not paying for and do not have to use is pointless and irrational.

I want to personally thank the gaim development team for taking the time to develop gaim.

I should say I am not able to use gaim since I have not been successful setting it up with Chikka.

      Anyway, thank you.

Real software? Garbage? F developers? George was some problem with himself when said it!
I need to use software written for Windows XP like Pro Tools. Microsoft's messenger and ICQ software causes a lot of latency when recording or editing audio. These companies cares too much about how beauty is their softwares. Take messenges in MSN, Gtalk, ICQ are important to every person with internet.

Gaim resolve it very well. Works with every messenge protocols I want and is very very lighten than all others chat softwares. Now I can manage audio files without worry about IM software confusing my CPU! Gaim never interfered on the latency of records or audio process. (To be honest, intefers a little, but do not cause a problem that needs to close)

I just need to thank Sean Egan and all developers working on Gaim! And ask for continue to working on it!

"Real Software Developers" is the one who make something that is usefull for people.

It's funny (and very sad) when people insult the developers of software that 1) is free and 2) no one is forcing them to use!

Don't worry about trolls like this, many of us couldn't live without Gaim now!

Very true. Whenever I'm using MSN on someone else's computer, all I can think is 'I miss gaim!!!'. It's a  well written software, even if your beta changelog suggests not all of you are entirely rooted in this reality! (just kidding)

If you don't like it, don't use it. As someone doing coding at college, I know how many hours it can take and how difficult it is to please everyone, so I think the guys at gaim do a fantastic job.

Im personally sick if i read threads where ppl eat lots of BS about gaim. i mean if they paid for it and they are not satisfied, i get it. but last time i checked it was free!
so ppl suck it up and use gaim, or just not use it. you know because there are ppl like me that dont have time to write cods for it, but im grateful for gaim, its not perfect but who is?!?!? and i like it!

      cheers

ps: love the work you did with beta6! it had some problems with the installation, but with that cleared out of the way, so far it has been the most stable beta for me.

That's real constructive criticism man. Instead of providing suggestions on how to improve the software you just bash it. Have you even tried it? I think GAIM is the best AIM client around (I don't use MSN like you were saying). Good job being a dick head man.
