You can setup a buddy pounce to do that, but it will appear as a regular popup (not at the tray). You will have I am not aware of a setting that will do that for any buddy, you have to create a pounce for each buddy that you are interested in. Use Tools->Buddy Pounces to do this.

      You want the guifications plugin.

I just installed guifications plugin. Most of the notifications that it gives don't interest me at all, and for those that interest me, I would rather see a regular popup dialog (with an OK button) than a floating one that I might not notice. I asked a question previously in this forum about this, but haven't gotten any responses, but the main notification that I am interested in is the email notification. The way the default notification works, I might not notice it for a long time and guifications is an improvement on that. However, if the message arrives while I step aside for a moment, then I face the same issue.

The email notifications should cause your buddy list window to flash in the taskbar, if you hide your buddy list from the taskbar then you are preventing that notification from working. Further, the tray icon should be changing to indicate new email messages, are you not counting that as a notification either? How much more do you want pidgin to do? Random dialogs are virtually always the things people have the most, virtually every dialog we have removed has made large numbers of people happy and generated very very small numbers of complaints (if any at all). If you want a permanent popup for email messages you can write a plugin for it (and if there isn't a signal for that currently you are free to add one).

Actually, I do minimize the buddy list window as I mostly use ^M command instead of double clicking in the buddy list window, which is why the indication in the buddylist window is not often seen immediately. However, I have never seen any indication in the tray icon when an email is arrived, though it does for new messages (and I find it very useful). Is there a setting I am missing here?

I agree that popup dialogs are bad, and in general I hate them too. But that is the best way to get noticed as well and it doesn't bother me much unless it pops up several times a day. I monitor only one of my a/cs for email and it is very low volume a/c, but when I do receive an email I want to get an immediate attention.

I downloaded and installed the guifications plugin. It is great!
It was what i was looking for!

        Thank you so much!

        Let's ask some questions:

Is it possible to use a different font (more bigger) for nickname that appear in the popup window?
Is it possible to show users' avatar?
Is it possible enable sounds when the popup came out?

Those questions are all better asked of the guifications people than of this forum. I suggest you go try that. I also suggest you look at the pidgin sound preferences since they cover most of the events guifications handles.
