Not as such, no. In order to have a chatroom on any of the major protocols you need to involve a server, the non-proprietary protocols allow you to password protect a room, or hide it from the room list, or make it members only (which options are available differ between IRC and XMPP). With XMPP you could also run your own chatroom server and control who has access to it entirely.

The other option is if all of your buddies are on your local network you can attempt to see if Bonjour supports chatrooms, I don't know if it does. But if it did then you could host a room locally, but I imagine it doesn't.

Is there a way for a private chat room, with just 3-4 persons? (Not a public chat room, with servers and such things).
I tried Buddies-> Join (or Add) Chat, but seems that they're intented for public chats.
