I am a bit confused, and looking for help... I downloaded the newest build of gaim beta for linux, I installed the howl libs and compiled gaim. Next I opened up gaim and tried to see how bonjour support worked, it quickly errored out saying "Unable to establish connection with the local mDNS server. Is it running?" and in the console it prints "[assert] error: 11 (connection refused) [assert] where: "socket.c", "sw_socket_tcp_connect", line: 720"

From my search on google it appears I needed to install avahi-daemon? I did and got some errors with dbus, so I disabled dbus in the avahi-daemon.conf and now the avahi-daemon starts right up. Gaim howerver will not let bonjour run...

So I am at a loss what I need for gaim to contact a mDNS server, I though it was avahi-daemon but I guess not.

    Thanks

Well I got gaim compiled with DBUS support but I still can not get avahi to run because I keep getting

"dbus_bus_request_name(): Connection ":1.1" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.Avahi" due to security policies in the configuration file"

Does gaim talk to avahi through dbus?
