    Hi,
With the previous versions of gaim I was able to set it so that when someone IM'd me the window would popup to the front and have focus.  For some reason this no longer works.  I know about the notify plugin but that is not the same thing.  Is there any way to get that back?

    Thanks

By "notify plugin," do you mean the Message Notification plugin?  And, in that case, the "Raise conversation window" option under "Notification methods" doesn't help?

Do you have options like Preferences > Interface > Hide new IM conversations set?  (Just for the sake of curiousity, how about the Flash window options...
Preferences > Conversations > Flash window when IMs are received
Plugins > Windows Pidgin Options (assuming you're using Windows) > Flash window when chat messages are received ?)

        Hi,

I should have mentioned that I am running this on Kubuntu linux on AMD 64 bit and yes I have the Message Notification plugin.  I do have the "raise conversation window" checked and that doesn't help/work.
I do not have "hide IM conversations" set (I have it set to never). Flash window does not appear to be available for me.  I do have notification popups which is my only indicatoin right now (a little popup window comes up to tell me someone is typing.  The problem with that is that if I have several IM windows going I don't know which one is the one typing.  Thats where having it pop to the forefront proved useful.

        Thanks.

KDE might have the focus-stealing prevention system activated, which will prevent pidgin from focusing itself, you can check in your KDE settings for this and play with the settings there to see if that helps.
Turning on the Urgency hint setting in the Message Notification plugin will cause KDE to flash the window on new messages (but might leave you with the KDE bug that the flashing doesn't always turn off correctly).

            Hi,

Thanks to all who replied.  I will play a bit more with the settings but my hope of it working is growing slim.  I do not have the kde focus stealing prevention on except for a couple of apps (openoffice, firefox, thunderbird, xv,) so I am trying it with a setup for pidgin to see what happens.  If it works I'll post results.
As for the plugins, they are a tempamental bunch.  I have most of them turned off for one reason or another.  I really don't use lots of bells and whistles but what I do use, they seem to drop with every new upgrade...... sigh.....  Maybe it's just me......

            Thank again.

I had a feeling you might be running it under Linux.  :)  I probably should bow out, though, since I don't have much experience working with Linux.

Could your window manager be suppressing the windows, for some reason?

It likely won't help with the window issue, but the Guifications plugin might provide better/more notifications.
