I am using pidgin 2.1.1 on windows. I setup an account for googletalk. I checked the new mail notification option.

My problem is it seems to only display the notification on login. I was wondering if it is suppose to check on an interval, like every minute or is it just on login?

  We don't actually check for mail; we receive notifications from the server that there is mail.
  
  In my experience, the notifications tend to come pretty quickly after the mail gets to your inbox.

  Just to check, do I need to enable anything in gmail to send that notification to googletalk?
