When I installed Pidgin, apparently the Yahoo and MSN smiley themes I'd downloaded for Gaim were deleted. Is there a site I can download these from again?
Also, the Pidgin site seems to be offline at the moment.

foe windows:
try looking for the .gaim or . purple files in the c:\documents and settings\current user\application data. and the application data folder is invisible so u should activate Show hidden files and folders in the option of the win explorer.

OK, I found a program called GUNZIP which extracts tarballs (I believe that's the correct name) from the .gz. I ran it by going into the command line and typing gzip.exe -d filename.tar.gz. The files were changed to just plain .TAR files. Can these .TAR files be moved to the smileys folder in Pidgin's installation directory?

You don't need to decompress or extract the tarball. Just save it to your harddrive and drag it from Windows Explorer into the Smiley Themes prefs dialog.

OK, I downloaded AIM 6 Triton pack (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1704041&group_id=235&atid=746976) and dragged it onto the list, but it didn't appear. I downloaded and installed the 4chan Related Emotes (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1552115&group_id=235&atid=746976) and they showed up in the list. But when I used them in an IM, I only saw the ASCII for them in the window, never the smileys themselves except in the little popup from which they're selected.

Locate the following directories:
(the main Gaim directory (if you're using Windows, it should be under Program Files))
.gaim
.purple
(under Windows, location may vary)
See if either of the Gaim folders still contain a 'smiley' folder with your themes in it. If there are, copy them to the .purple/smiley/ directory.
The only folder in Gaim is guifications, which was left over when Gaim was deleted.

Well, here's a link to the Themes section from the old Sourceforge project pages.
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=746976&group_id=235&func=browse
The themes you're looking for might be there.
All the files on that tracker page appear to be .TAR.GZ files. Those are a Mac format if I'm not mistaken. I'm on Windows.
.tar.gz is traditionally a unix format, but there is nothing that prevents it from being used elsewhere.
The Windows version uses this format for the smiley theme packages.
I tried I tried dragging the gunzipped tarball files onto Pidgin's smiley themes list, but it didn't accept them. Am I doing something wrong?

Ironically, I was just going to try that. *Feels very n00bish.*
