I'm working on a patch to Gaim that will do this and other things:
* dynamic (runtime) choice of sound files
* allow saving of buddy pounces
* allow a user to attach a sound to a buddy pounce
* adds appropriate configuration widgets to preferences dialog
it should be done in the next 48 hours, I hope.

It would be cool to be able to "save" buddy pounces so that every time the specified user signs on i get alerted.
