What would it take to get support for the Xfire network incorporated into Pidgin by default?
It seems like it would be an appropriate time to begin officially incorporating a form of it in Pidgin's default install, as Xfire's network has now grown to over 7 million users.
An open source plugin does currently exist, although it seems to be somewhat undermanned. http://gfire.sourceforge.net

I would like native support as well. The Gfire project hasn't worked since Gaim 2.0.0beta4. At that time the explanation was that "The API has not finalized for 2.0.0." That was 12 months ago (http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1596645&forum_id=474406).
I doubt if some of the more obscure protocols that Pidgin supports have as many active users.
Although Xfire is designed, unlike the other protocols to be integrated within games, so that messages are not obtrusive while playing, many gamers use it even when not gaming. Native support would eliminate yet another client.

well it wont work IN game, but just as skype, there is no need fort all that "snick snack", main thing is that buddies who use that can reach you, it don't have to be IN game
i'm very very happy with the xfire plugin, i witch there would be an identical featured plugin for skype
if i really want the snick snack i just run the real thing for that time, but the point of gaim is to have all in one in a very small + fast little application
if gaim would have all the features of all messengers it would be probably like 100mb and i would not use it then

FuguRitual: That's so true -- many users do use Xfire irregardless of the in-game support. Even just porting the ability to communicate over the Xfire network would be quite a boon for Pidgin.
siiix: The actual plugin is only ~50KB, it shouldn't be an overwhelming size for inclusion on a project like this.

i know matrix , as i said i use the plugin, but i like it how it is that its ONLY basic communication WITHOUT in-game support or other xfire features
so basically i agree with you that it would be nice integrated,
but disagree with who ever said that we need ingame support and stuff as well built in, as the extra features should be plug in for who ever needs it
have you tried the gfire snapshots? there's pidgin support there.
