Is it possible to put all your contacts into one group? I tried this, but when I reopen gain it creates another group with contacts in it.

Yes, you can put all of your buddies into one group, dragging buddies into the right groups should work correctly. What version of gaim are you using and what protocol did you try this with?

I'm using 2.0.0beta6 for Windows and I use the AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo protocols. When I put all my contacts one group, it works, but when I restart Gaim it creates another group called "Buddies" and puts some of the contacts in there.

Also, is there a way to select all the contacts instead of one at a time? I tried shift-click, but it didn't work.

The buddies for what protocol are being moved into the Buddies group when you restart?
And no, gaim does not support multiple selection in the buddy list.

Gaim does have the ability to move ALL the users from one group to another group.  Simply rename one of the groups the same as the other group.  (e.g. rename the group 'friends' as the group 'Buddies')  Gaim will then merge the two groups.

Personally, I just call my main list 'Buddies' and live with it.  Perhaps there is a plug-in (or someone could write one) that renames all the groups at login automaticly so you don't have to mess with it.
