I just installed beta6 on Windows XP SP2, but whenever I try to open it, I immediately get a windows error: Gaim has encountered an error and needs to close.
Beta 6 came with GTK 2.10.7 rev a, that might make a difference. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling gaim, or deleting the plugins folder in the gaim program directory? For some reason there are plugins in both the .gaim directory and the program directory, and for me an xfire plugin was causing issues.

i have the same problem.
Win xp pro sp2.
i tried to delete the plugin folder in the gaim directory, and gaim opened but i then i had no plugins not even the one needed for the accounts. as for the .gaim i have no plugins there.
i also tried to install GKT 2.10.7 rev a, and also the previous 2 versions of it.
and on top of it every time i tried i deleted gaim and gtk totally out of my system.
do u have any suggestions?
thanks

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I meant delete the plugins folder and then reinstall, or else you won't have the ones required for the protocols either.

I'm having the same problem here. I'm running XP /sp2. I fired up my machine this morning and launched GAIM2.0 Beta 5. It crashed on start up. So I decided I would look of a patch / new beta. I found beta 6 and installed that. It too crashes at launch. I've uninstalled Gaim, GTK and Aspell. I went in to the directories and deleted the directories for Gaim, GTK and Aspell. Reinstalled and got the same results. It seems to crash while loading dll files for libsametime.dll. If I remove that it crashed on libyahoo.dll.

This might not work for everyone, but the simple fix I found was to just rename (or delete) the plugins directory in your Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\.gaim directory.

I went through my plugins (program files directory - SLerman's app data folder fix didn't work for me) one at a time, and got mine to start by deleting the four 'extpos.*' files. These files are for the Windows Position Manager plugin.

gaim has logging support built in, you just need to turn it on in the preferences, even if the automatic logging didn't work you wouldn't need to copy and paste into Notepad because the Conversation menu has a Save As menu item.

AppName: gaim.exe AppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: libgaim.dll

I moved my entire .gaim folder, because I remember and old problem where I had to delete my prefs.xml file with a new version, but that didn't help.
I reinstalled gtk 2.10.6 rev A, that didn't help either.
So now I'm back to beta5. Any ideas?

The plugins folder did it. Thanks for the suggestion.

after couple more tries, i made it finally work.
:)
cheers
If you have account tabs plugin, that will cause it. Not sure what other plugins cause it to crash.
I tried to delete the plugins, but it still crashes. And I cant even go back 2 beta5, it doesnt load the protocols w/ that either.

Same problem here too. Only started this morning. Windoze XP/sp2
Try removing log recording .dll in the folder c:\program files\gaim\plugins
with that one removed the program opens fine for me ^^
just can't log convos (easy fix, copy and paste into notepad ^^)
