pidgin-snpp moving to guifications plugin pack

I've decided to move pidgin-snpp into the guifications plugin pack at http://plugins.guifications.org. I just don't have to time to maintain it as a standalone for all the changes in the gaim/pidgin platform.

rekkanoryo has been converting it into a pidgin 2.0 protocol plugin, hopefully we'll have a release soon!

Long live pidgin-snpp

After the big news from the mothership[1], I asked some of the devs and we all thought it would be prudent to follow suit here, and that's just what I've done.

Now I just need to recreate my dev environment and get things working with the pidgin 2.0 code!

gaim-snpp 0.8.0

Yes this NEWS item is only about 6 months behind, but thought it was bugging me that 0.7.1 was still listed. Anyway, for those that don't know. 0.8.0 includes changes to accomdate the gaim-1.x.x branch, so you should all be using it by now for your SNPP-communicating needs.

gaim-snpp 0.7.1 Released

gaim-snpp is a protocol plug-in for Gaim that allows sending messages to pager servers (like sendpage, beepage, or qpage) via the Simple Network Paging Protocol ("SNPP" - RFC 1861), basically turning Gaim into an SNPP client. So far SNPP Level 1 only.

This release is just to accomodate the new gaim PRPL API and so requires gaim >= 0.82.

NOTE: datallah had an OOPS in the original gaim-snpp-0.7.1.exe. He sent a knew one over and says it works. Enjoy.... read more

Version 0.5.0 includes changes to accomodate plugin/PRPL changes in Gaim core. Sorry kids, no level 2 support yet.

gaim-snpp 0.3.0 win32 installer

Special thanks to Daniel Atallah (aka datallah) for making a win32 installer, and thanks to my co-worker Chris Greatens for testing it since I'm happily Windows-less. I've uploaded the .exe installer to the FRS and the source files are now in CVS as well.

Thanks again!

gaim-snpp 0.3.0 Released

gaim-snpp is a protocol plug-in for Gaim that allows sending messages to pager servers (like sendpage, beepage, or qpage) via the Simple Network Paging Protocol ("SNPP" - RFC 1861), basically turning Gaim into an SNPP client. So far SNPP Level 1 only.

Mainly changes for plugin protocol struct changes in Gaim core for Gaim 0.77. gaim-snpp 0.3.0 will only work with Gaim 0.77 (and higher unless they change the protocol again, which they are free to do).... read more

gaim-snpp 0.1.0 Released

gaim-snpp is a protocol plug-in for Gaim that allows sending messages to pager servers (like qpage) via the Simple Network Paging Protocol ("SNPP" - RFC 1861).

I've rolled back the change for the new prpl struct and released 0.1.0 for Gaim-0.75. There is no ETA for Gaim-0.76 and every time I think it's close it never happens, and discussions now give me the impression that it is at least a couple of weeks away.... read more

Waiting for Gaim 0.76

I made some changes for gaim-0.76 compliance, and will waiting until gaim-0.76 is released before releasing gaim-snpp-0.1.0. FYI.

gaim-snpp 0.1.0-beta

gaim-snpp is a protocol plug-in for Gaim that allows sending messages to pager servers (like qpage) via the Simple Network Paging Protocol ("SNPP" - RFC 1861).

Thanks to xgrimx in #gaim for shooting me straight on some C theory. I did a lot of clean up based on that advice and also shamelessly stole his autoconf/automake setup scripts so I got that going for me, which is nice.

gaim-snpp 0.1.0-alpha

I think I'm nearing the end of development for "level 1" snpp support. I probably should add a README and such detailing exactly what is supported as far as the various details of the SNPP protocol.

One thing I forgot to do is re-edit the Makefile. Basically to build it you'll want to update the PREFIX and GAIM_TOP vars in the Makefile to point to the gaim source.

Please file any and all bugs with the bug tracker.... read more

Introducing gaim-snpp

gaim-snpp hopes to be a fully function SNPP (Simple Network Paging Protocol) plugin for the Gaim instant messenger client (http://gaim.sourceforge.net). Users with paging servers like QPage will be able to use it to send alphanumeric pages to server pager IDs from their desktops via gaim.

For all intents and purposes I'm learning C as I go. I had Intro to C++ 9 years ago, but we all know how that fades over time with no use. And coming from a lot of perl work I find myself having to go back and remove "$" from all my variable names. :p... read more
