In standard AIM, when encryption is being used, a lock
appears next to that person's username on the buddy
list. However, on Gaim (1.0.3) there is no lock.

This sounds like it wouldn't be that hard to do, could
such a feature be implemented?

Since in a single conversation window some messages may be
encrypted/verified and some not, it would be better if the
lock was next to individual messages.

Just an icon on your buddy list to show which buddies have
the extension installed would be nice. It could also change
color depending on whether you have their key or not.

In fact, both previous comments/requests (nobody and eyv)
should appear jointly: i.e. colored key in the buddy list to
identify who can do encryption (and if we have her key) and
replace the Rx:plain/secure button (which is just an
instantaneous status) by an icon that would identify which
message is encrypted or not (both for scrolled history and
    archive log files).

I don't know whether it would be straightforward or not-
depends on what Gaim exposes about the buddy list. Notice
that Gaim-Encryption used to have lock icons in the
"Auto-Encrypt" menu from the buddy list (right click on
buddy name), but those were removed when that part of the
    Gaim API went away.

If it is possible to do, it would be a cool feature. I'm
not sure when I'll have time to look at it, but I'll keep it
    in the list.
