Not having looked at any of gaim-encryption too closely.. I was wondering what the chances of moving away from GTK dependence are. This would allow other platforms and other non-gtk dependent programs to utilize this fine piece of work. For instance... even other programs based on libgaim would be able to use it like Adium for Mac OS X. So many people I know use gaim with gaim-encryption and while I'm using OS X I cannot use this encryption schema... I'm forced to use the vastly inferior OTR... which not many of my friends have even installed.
So.. what are the chances of this happening? Would it be possible to shift dependcies over to libgaim, or is this just an extremely naive idea?

While it would be nice if the plugin had a better core/ui split (to use Gaim terminology), that would require some pretty serious re-factoring.  And, at that point, someone would need to write a different ui for whichever non-gtk windowing toolkits were used.  I'm not sure exactly what level of the Gaim API is used by Adium, so I'm not sure how feasible that would end up being.

At a guess, at least half of the code in Gaim-Encryption deals with UI, rather than the actual encryption, so I'd guess that porting it to Adium would be at least a half a re-write.
