When running string test in piddletest.py, get proper PDF rendering
under acrobat but when printing to postscript file, the symbol font letters
disappear.
this is most likely a problem with pdfgen.py...
this appears (?) to have evolved independently into
reportlab.
so: investigate the effort involved in migrating this
backend to reportlab.
