New dedicated Mac OS Lion UPDATE!

Dear PhysMo users. PhysMo 2 now has a dedicated Mac OS file optimised to run on Lion. It should now run straight out of the box on a system with Java installed.

PhysMo 2

After a long time of dormancy, I have revived the PhysMo project and breathed new life into it.

Some years before, I was planning on using the JMF/FMJ project and hoping for a truly system-portable application that could be deployed on various school computers without much effort. Unfortunately, these projects have not advanced as much as I required in order to implement something like PhysMo. Recently however, I found a project called FFMPEG- which is a command-line implementation of a video processing library found on different operating systems.... read more

PhysMo 0.9.3 planning has commenced

After much thought about the issue, I have decided that if possible, PhysMo should be written using the Java Media Framework to display the videos in a fashion that is more stable than using QuickTime, and also more proprietry independant.

Thus removing a major dependance on external proprietry code.

Stay tuned in the coming months for a big release.

Jason.

NOTE: It has recently come to my attention that there now exists a project called FMJ- the free media for Java project. One that aims to be an open source alternative to JMF. This is a rather interesting project and those into media in Java should well pay them a visit. If possible PhysMo will use this framework instead of the JMF to finally enable Macintosh support in the project- something that has been long in need of work.

PhysMo manual 2-3 days off release

For those who have downloaded PhysMo, and are currently wondering how to use it, rest assured as a basic instruction manual is on the way to get you started. I have neglected this important part of PhysMo due to being pressed for time with Uni, but it will be up shortly. Thanks for your patience.

A big thankyou to Joel Bryan from PhysMo team!

Many thanks to Joel Arthur Bryan PhD, from Texas A&M University Center for Mathematics and Science Education, for allowing the use of his videos in examples for PhysMo. Over the coming months, some detailed examples of use of PhysMo will be posted online for download, that will demonstrate the features possible with PhysMo. PhysMo 0.9 stable beta released!

PhysMo is a program that enables frame-by-frame analysis of video to trace moving objects and, upon callibration, get real world distance vs time data and export to Microsoft Excel. This enables the calculation of velocity and acceleration. Useful for school physics students, sport or any job needing video analysis of motion.
