I saw some sites that have weblogs, chats, or some other type of mods that allow users to see a list of other participating sites that are running the same mod...

anyone knows how to implement such a feature? it would be cool if it's already available somewhere since I don't have much time to do it myself...

the idea is close to that of a webring, but instead of just a dumb static list of sites that u can browse, it would be more useful to actually sort the list in a certain order, it's also dynamic, you don't have to add or remove from the list, and it's decentralized....

if you go to http://talloula.com and click on GuestMap you can see users to sign the guestbook and their locations....well if the mod offers something similar...say a participant-sites map

say for example a mod that offers local weather information, your site will provide local weather for your area only, but your mod links to other sites running the same mod, that offer weather info in their location...so users who come to your site, can click on the mod's map or list...and pick another site that offers the same service!

same thing works for translation services....for example If if make a translation engine, and you have the option to build dictionaries in your own language, or offer translation in pairs of languages that you select, other sites on your modmap will offer the same service in other languages....

same thing would apply for mods for fishing information, maps, driving directions, online collaboration for programmers, knowledgebases, faqs...
