How about a wysiwyg editor for submiting articles? It would help in making the site more attractive as you could more easily enhance the look of your news.
I like the first one, since I mainly use Netscape, though this is only for Windows.
One thing you'd have to consider with this, is that the submit articles script strips out most of the HTML except for certain tags that you deem safe. It might frustrate people who use the tool thinking they will get what they just made, only to discover most of their formatting has been stripped out. If this editor can be customized to only use the tags we define, then it might be cool.
One other possibility that's intriguing is to use it in other modules, like a web hosting module where users get their own web space and they can edit their site right from a browser. I haven't played with the phpDocMan module, but that would definitely be a worthwhile addition to that module as well.

I like the idea to use one of the editors with a web hosting module but aren't most new users these days needing pretty much pre-canned pages that are already formatted and just require a few basic choices (background color/image, layout, text style, pre-defined links, etc.)? Perhaps that, coupled with wysiwyg following and then linked with `personal menu'?

I think or a stripped down version of this is needed in the user page module, I have long held that mose visitors do not have basic html knowledge. So to offer them a personalized links window but force them to use html to get anything out of it, well, its difficult. This feature would be great to allow the user to create a Real info page about themself.

an editor customized for ONLY the tags used in phpws would be great! I set phpws for an organization where none of them really understand HTML at all, but needed a way to be able to post articles without a "webmaster" and it works ok, but nobody there really knows the first thing about how to format a page. If I could tell them : Go here, point and click" that would save me hours and days of time teaching people who really don't want to learn LOL

Check out this open source wysiwyg editor for php:

I just discovered a wysiwyg editor for phpnuke:
http://andrewquiz.sourceforge.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=EZ_Submit&file=index
Similar, but only works with IE as compared to the above that works on both IE and Netscape.
