      lo_tec,

What do you mean by a directory mod?

Yeah, can you be a bit more specific on what you want the module to do? List directories of files? a phone directory?

I've also been looking for a directory module, especially one with searchable features.

The New England Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators website -- running phpWebsite 0.8.2 at http://nescbwi.org -- is looking to put its CONNECTIONS directory online in a format that is easy to use and administer.  This directory, currently distributed in print and electronic versions, is used by schools and libraries in New England to locate speakers for events and classroom visits.  The fields we use can be seen at http://nescbwi.org/connections.php

As far as I can tell, there is no existing directory module for this function.

Such a directory module, as I envision it, would allow administrators to add and update records, and approve or disapprove records submitted by users.  Users would be able to search the directory by one or more fields created by the administrator, and sort results in a variety of ways.  The module could also be used to post classified ads, catalog entries, software reviews, etc.

On the wishlist would be an ability to search geographically by zip code or city, so a school principal might find speakers living within X miles of her school, or a speaker could indicate a preference for not travelling more than Y miles to give a presentation.

Direct any questions to webmaster@nescbwi.org --Thanks!

I would like something similar. Like a yellowpages mod if anyone has time to do one sometime. You have all been so wonderful about creating mods and I know I can't have everything, but this one would definitely be a great addition.

      Thank you,
      Marie Alline

Oh, now I get you.... a phonebook module.... "Directory" means so many things, especially in the computer world :)

I have yet to play with the contacts module, but it may prove useful...has anyone tried that as a phonebook?

Contacts is okay, the table structure isn't really setup for what you are wanting here.

A phone book needs primary, parent, and child relationships in creating, maintaining, and displaying its contents.

This module is possible and would be fun to make, but alas my plate is already very, very full.

This site is a demo and in constant development and experimentation, so it may not be up in a month or so.

My Aevum project will be a contacts database and since I'm waiting for 0.9 to come out to start development I can take any suggestions.

I _will_ be writing this module so it won't be vapor-ware.  Feel free to send me ideas and suggestions.  don@seiler.us
