The Bookstore Module allows the administrator for a phpWebSite v0.8.2 site to sell books of their choosing through the Amazon Associates Programme.

You can see it in action at http://www.terrorism.net and download it from https://sourceforge.net/projects/phpws-bookstore/.

To receive commissions, you become a member of the Associates Programme (https://associates.amazon.com/). You will receive an Associates ID which will identify purchasers that have been referred by you to the Amazon system. There is no charge for this. If you don't want to do this, simply install the module and use the default Amazon ID, which will send all the commissions to me.

This module also makes use of the XML-based Amazon Web Services (http://www.amazon.com/webservices). To make use of this you must get a "Developer's Token". *This is a must*. Unlike the Associates ID, it is not an option. Again, there is no cost to get this.

The module also makes use of Filzhut.net amazon_functions for PHP. It is free for non-commercial web sites with referral fees up to 50$/quarter All others should visit The Filzhut Site for details on how licensing works.

This is a BETA version of the product and it has a few bugs that should be
watched for. Specifically:

1. The Search function does work, but will only show the first 10 results. As you will see, there are buttons to step through the results, but they don't seem to be working. This may be due to a problem with the Filzhut amazon_functions.

2. The Block isn't working yet. For some reason the titles aren't being displayed I'm trying to figure this out, but if anyone manages to get it working let me know how.

3. I'm uncertain how the module will work with php and mySQL installations different from mine. I'm using PHP 4.2.1 on Win2k IIS5 and mySQL 3.23.39. Let me know about your experiences with different configurations.

4. This is my first crack at publishing a module, not to mention that I've only been playing around with php for a couple of months. Please feel free to point out my transgressions. I have a lot to learn, and I won't if nobody tells me when I've made an error.

5. I have not yet completed the comments. They will be completed for the final release

Coming Improvements/fixes
1. Ability to start discussion thread in the forums by clicking a button in the product information page
2. Ability to add books to inventory from the search results page when logged into phpWS as Admin
3. "Suggest a title" form that will behave similar to Announcements
4. Integration with phpWS 0.9.0 "fatcat"category manager
5. Ability to add notes to the product info page.
6. Ability to work with the Associates programmes in countries other than US. This is dependent on Amazon rolling-out Web Services in all the markets that they have a presence.
This sounds like a really cool module, Victor! I'll be over to take a look in a minute...
