can I also write a relative path to images? Something like: 
[uploads/myimage.png]

It's a bit of a hack, but I use URLs of the form http:/my/relative/path.
They act just like absolute URLs - you can inline images, etc.

I don't know if this behaviour is just because of the web server or not - it
works on both Apache and IIS, at any rate.

thanks. And it also works like that:

[http:../uploads/screen.png]

good to know. This makes the whole wiki much more portable.
