I agree completely. I think we should implement the link table soon.
(In addition to the feature's we've been talking about, it will make the
back-link search fast and correct.)

Just to add a data point:
Wiki_transform takes about a second on the current TestPage (on PII/450).
That is a fair amount of juice, and I can see that being an issue for some
(though, it isn't for me, really).
I don't think the new transform code is going to be any faster.
