[Phpwiki-talk] phpwiki-1.2.5 released: register_globals=off safety

We promised not to touch this old stable branch (last time touched 
2001), but support requests got annoying, and it's several times smaller 
and faster then the big 1.3.x development branch.  (Well, on the sf.net 
webserver it's still very slow, but that's a hosting problem.)

The main feature is register_globals=off safety. Those reports got 
annoying. But I also  found several bugs with the dba, dbm, file and 
msql backends on GetAllWikiPagenames which affected dumpserial and zip.

You have been warned. The pagedata and versiondata cache revamp is not 
finished, it's dirty, and I want to clean it up without using too much 
memory.

Just to clarify, I had problems with page ownership since I started
playing with 1.3.11pre - my previous patches were chipping away at bits of
the problem. What I am testing is from CVS as on Saturday - I will upgrade
to latest over the weekend.

It's not the html cache. It's something different.

This weeks cvs changes altered the pagedata cache settings (and more 
wikidb stuff), so it will need some time (a week?) to get that 
stabilized again.

I haven't yet tested all of the features and there're still some
bits which need fixes.

No ideas :(
But your problem seems to be really close to mine:
look at "Strange ACL behaviour" and "Group management status" messages. 
I didn't test that this week again but I think our problems are very close.

I am running CVS phpwiki of a few days ago and I'm confused... :-(

I am using PhpWikiAdministration/Chown to change the owner of a page to a
group (I am using WikiPage for groups). It initially shows the owner of
almost all of the pages is the administrator id (as defined in config.ini).
I select a small number of pages to change and click yes - and phpwiki
re-displays the shorter list of pages and asks me to confirm.  I click yes
again. Sometimes I get a message telling me that no pages were changed - but
when I restart the process it still shows the administrator is the owner,
not the requested new group.  I have tried purging the html cache and it
makes no difference.

When I go to the actual page, sometimes it does show the page being owned by
the group. Sometimes it shows the page being owned by the administrator and
sometimes it shows the page being owned by another user id that initially
created the page.  I have spent sometime looking at the code but have not
yet got anywhere.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Our Oscar has hole in the head and has been sick for some time approx. 1 month( his name is Eight!)    He is a rather large Oscar about 2lbs and 13-14 inches.  We have taken suggestion and given him Tetracyclin for a number of weeks at two different intervals.  It seems to have stopped the Hole in the head from getting worse but now we have another problem, he just sits on the bottom or lays on his side,  when he swims it is at bursts and then he falls directly to the bottom again where he sits for long periods of time.  He wont eat and hasnt when we see him but obviosly is at least a lttle or im sure he would be dead by now.  What is the problem as you see it,  he is a sentamental fish and we would sure hate to lose him,  what can we do  ?????

But you know of _AuthInfo, do you?
This displays Auth and Group info in more detail and much more.

I might add it as "_GroupInfo" for consistency.

Well, I added it as _GroupInfo, even if it keeps the messages 
untranslated, and is only of little interest, compared to _AuthInfo.
It should also print the current group method.

No parameters used. Activate it by placing "<?plugin _GroupInfo ?>" in a 
page.

I've made a patch against 1.2.4 which fixes several issues:

Sorry, it is already there: fmt() does the magic with sprintf-like 
HtmlContent objects.

phpwiki.sf.net/demo/ is updated occasionally. my own machines are behind 
a firewall.
sf.net stopped cron, and I haven't yet setup up my remote cron update 
for the demo site. Before july it got updated daily from CVS.

I waited for the new machines which they announced last month, but you 
shouldn't trust announced dates. This is IT business. Oh my.

So please use different databases for this task. Just a different DSN.
You can do that automatically by creating the DSN automatically
e.g. by prefixing the database with the gforge project name. 
("myproject_phpwiki")
Or even use the gforge database "myproject" and just add some general 
"phpwiki_" prefix.

Either prefixes or databases.
I see no technical reason for a WikiDB db_id.

In gforge there's no need for a custom starter script for each project, 
you can do that automatically, by creating these wiki settings from your 
app. Just define the general settings in the central config/config.ini 
and define the custom overrides in the script behind the wiki link.

BTW: In CVS there's no nameclash with $Theme anymore, but 1.3.10 is not 
usable with gforge.

I want to offer phpwiki servicies to mutiple groups (I'm looking around 
gforge wiki plugin). For security reason I have to separate content of 
each instances of PhpWiki. I can have thousand instances of phpwiki so 
it imply ten thousand mysql tables.

I already (successfully) tested database prefix but I think next phpwiki 
updates (with db schema upgrades) will be a little bit complicated.

But it's just "feeling" about possible issues, I don't really have 
examples of "Why I think that it could be a problem?"

php4 is not really a truly parsed language yet, just a simple but 
efficient hack. you need php5 or perl or java for such advanced syntax 
features :)

It should, but I have no time to write yet another basic msg-formatter.

$args['caller'] is the same as $request->getArg($pagename).

But we don't have to display again the changed page. Since AppendText is 
just a side-effect we should let the basic browse action generate that 
page, and either invalidate the cache (if AppendText is at the very 
fronm of the page) or redirect to the new page (if it's somewhere in 
between or after).

Good point. I'll try to make that auth method-specific. So that certain 
external auths are less strict, like db, ldap and session.

why? don't do that!
just define a different DATABASE_PREFIX for each wiki and generate the 
tables with these prefixes.
