Is there something nonstandard with your PHP setup? Do you use the CGI wrapper thing, for example? Have you edited any of the files like display.php or transform.php? It looks like you are using the 1.2 version of PhpWiki. ~swain --- http://www.panix.com/~swain/ "Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid." -- Frank Zappa |

I just picked up on this again... you mentioned it previously but it went under my radar: you're using the nightly build, which is alpha software! Try installing 1.2 instead, which is stable and recommended: http://download.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/phpwiki-1.2.0.tar.gz I think your formatting problems and page editing problems will go away if you use 1.2 instead. The nightly build has a radically different rendering engine that doesn't support the old markup language; 1.2 does though. ~swain On 1 Apr 2001, Gary Lawrence Murphy wrote: > >>>>> "S" == Steve Wainstead <sw...@pa...> writes: > > S> Can you point me to an example page? > > S> On 31 Mar 2001, Gary Lawrence Murphy wrote: > > >> The convertion was relatively painless, but one small question: > >> The page contents are being marked up with <pre> tags but the > >> line lengths are being translated as one paragraph per line > >> leading to huge page widths. OK, this is a fine example of cut and paste programming, but it works OK
for the test sites I used. I set up brand new 1.0 and 1.2 sites, and
converted the 1.0 dbm files to 1.2 dbm files and it seems to work fine.
This should be integrated with the admin functionality; in fact in the
first version of the admin functionality it was (there is still a script
in the admin/ directory called wiki_port1_0.php) but it no longer works.
This script should be self explanatory; all you need to do is set the
variables at the beginning of the script that point to the DBM files, both
old and new. It will open the 1.0 file as read-only, for your peace of
mind ;-)
After you run the script you will have new DBM files; edit the config.php
file for your 1.2 installation to use them (I used the default names so
this should be easy).

Hi list,
At last, I found why my gettext isn't working. Apparently, this is
needed for some newer gettext implementations.

Hi Toan, Right now PhpWiki will only save the last version of the page. We are now planning on adding the ability to keep multiple versions in the archive. Hi, My name is Toan Vo and I php programer. I try to download your phpwiki web and set it up with mysql. It's working fine but then my question is: when I change something on a page, it only keep 2 version: one is the original and one is the current version. It doesn't keep 4 version if I change a page 4 times. Is that you can control on setup or not? And can where is the manual for the Administrator? Thank you. Toan |

The part of the URL after the CGI script name ('/PhpWiki' in the above example) is available in the $PATH_INFO environment variable. Note that with some minor tricks, you can also set up the latest alpha version of PhpWiki to use URLs like: http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/alpha/PhpWiki There's more discussion on this topic at: http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index.php?PageNamesInPathInfo The easiest way to get this feature is probably to "upgrade" to the alpha version. There's a nightly snapshot at: ftp://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/pub/phpwiki/phpwiki.nightly.tar.gz If you don't want to "upgrade", you can look at the code in the alpha version to see how it's done. (The alpha version has been pretty static for the past couple of weeks, so if you grab a snapshot right now, it should be sort of "stable".) Steve: Maybe there should be a alpha release? (Also a 1.2.1 release? --- but I guess maybe we should fix the case sensitivity in page-name bugs first.) |

Right. It's been so long since the issue of upgrading from 1.0 to 1.1.x came up, I'd forgotten all about the issues. The small problem is that we renamed the page field in the database; it was called "text" and we renamed it to "content" to get around the problem that "text" is a keyword in most RDBMSs. I will work on a PHP script to convert a 1.0 database to a 1.2 (read the old one, write a new one). ~swain On Wed, 28 Mar 2001, Steve Wainstead wrote: > > I can't find any discussion of upgrading from 1.03 to 1.1.x in the list > archives. I can't find any discussion of upgrading from 1.03 to 1.1.x in the list
archives. Has anybody done this? In theory we were supposed to be able to
read 1.0 DBM files with 1.2, but in practice I get blank pages.
It would probably take me an afternoon to write a Perl script to create a
1.2 compatible database once I identify the problem...
I swear we had a solution for this!

Subject: Re: Asking the impossible
I thought I'd give it a quick try tonight, but I'm not having much
luck; I'm using a database from 1.03 (03/21/00) and tried to import
the database by
1) load the default pages for the new new version
(not certain of the version other than the Changes start with
the date 2001-03-14 -- I foolishly grabbed the 'nightly' ;)
2) login as admin
3) delete the generated TEST*db files from /tmp
4) copy my old TEST.dbm to TESTpagesdb
(also tried adding TEST.arc -> TEST.archivedb)
5) click the link to save as a zip file
6) try to import the zip file
Is this even remotely correct? It seemed precarious, and it didn't
work.
I also tried dumping the file using a simple perl script; the dumped
pages contained lead-in index-fields that the parser didn't like -- I
didn't find any perl script in the kit, but there is a very promising
file in admin but my naiive attempt at
/phpwiki/admin/wiki_port1_0.php?portdbmfile=/home/httpd/gen/TEST.dbm
returned
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: insertpage() in
/home/httpd/html/phpwiki/admin/wiki_port1_0.php on line 35
and grep shows no match for insertpage() in any of the php files;
I expect this is a work in progress ;) and maybe my best option is
to just wait and try again when it's completed.
Thanks again for your help, and if you have any other ideas for
doing this port, please let me know.

Hi Didier, Do you mean the install process didn't work right? Or your wiki just has a lot of pages now? Speed has never been a high priority with PhpWiki since it's usually used by small groups of people. I think we will look at ways of serving pages faster in the next release later this year. In the meantime you might start hacking PhpWiki yourself! :-) ~swain On Tue, 27 Mar 2001, Didier Bretin wrote: > Hello, > > I have installed version 1.2. with postgresql 7.0. And if I recall correctly we set a limit on the page size in the source code so the warez d00ds can't upload uuencoded files. ~swain On Mon, 26 Mar 2001, Aredridel wrote: > > Hello, > > > > Is there a limit to the size of the textarea when I edit a page ? > > Actually, yes; Netscape has a 32k limit in most versions [though not all]. > Internet explorer has no limit that I've found [and have some pages over > 100k]. Hello, I try to install phpwiki-1.2.0. on http://d.bretin.free.fr/phpwiki-1.2.0/ and apparently I'm redirected to another web, the one of my provider, when I click on a link: I got this link: http://php.proxad.net/cgi-bin/cgiwrap?SandBox. Can I do something to avoid this behaviour ? Oh, my provider got php3 and mysql. Hello,
I have installed version 1.2. with postgresql 7.0. I did an extract of the
wiki base: it's grow, grow, grow ! And my phpwiki become slow, slow , slow ! :o).
What can I do to have better performance ? The table 'wiki' has 105 records and
the table 'archive' 11. Do I need to do some archive process ?
And what is the use for the table 'archive' ?
Regards.

Hi Guys, I've just installed phpwiki and am having trouble seeing the index.php page via my web browser. Is there anything that I'm doing/did wrong here? Do I need to configure something else? > Is there a limit to the size of the textarea when I edit a page ? Do you mean size on your screen or do you mean a limit on how much text you can put in a textarea? The size on screen is set by the rows= and cols= attributes in the textarea tag. If you want to change these in phpwiki 1.2.0, you need to edit templates/editpage.html. If the development branch, individual users can set the size of the textarea by visiting the UserPreferences page. There is a limit to how much text you can type into a textarea. I know I read about this on some other wiki (Meatball?) but can't find the reference right now. I believe the limit is due to a limit imposed on the total (encoded) size of form post data by several well known browsers. I cannot remember what the limit was reported to be, but 32K sticks in my head for some reason. ( If this turns out to be a real problem, it might be possible to get around this limitation by using enctype=multipart/form-data instead of enctype=application/x-www-form-urlencoded. ) Jeff |

win2000: on cygwin (latest) all these date commands just do the C locale. but php is better: I use the [2001-02-20] php4.0.5-dev testbranch (the second i guess, but locale stuff didn't change) from the german binary download site http://www.mm4.de/php4win/. <dl> <dt>php version:</dt><dd><b><?php print phpversion()?></b></dd> <dt>server api:</dt><dd><b><?php print function_exists("php_sapi_name") ? php_sapi_name() : "unable to detect" ?></b></dd> <dt>system:</dd><dd><b><?php print function_exists("php_uname") ? php_uname() : "unable to detect" ?></b></dd> <?php function testlctime ($loc) { setlocale ("LC_TIME", $loc); echo "<dt>$loc:</dt><dd><b>"; echo strftime ("%a., %d. %b %Y - %x %X", time()); echo "</b></dd>"; } testlctime ("de"); // wrong testlctime ("de_AT"); // wrong testlctime ("de_DE"); // wrong testlctime ("deutsch"); // wrong testlctime ("german"); // okay ?> </dl> => php version: 4.0.5-dev server api: apache system: Windows NT 5.0 build 2195 de: Fri., 16. [Excerpt from the 'success' page follows...] Thank you for editing BioDemocracyNews. Your careful attention to detail is much appreciated. I haven't looked at the code to see why it reports success incorrectly though(?) Do you think it would be a good idea to switch our backend to MySQL? (I've also seen inconsistent results in the MostPopular page.) Thanks, -jeb PS: Any ideas why these extra 5 byte entries exist in the dump?
