Hello Roland, PhpWiki has a built in French translation, which I believe is still not completely finished. Perhaps you can help out! If you can get a copy from CVS, or the nightly build (http://phpwiki.sf.net/nightly/phpwiki.nightly.tar.gz) you can install PhpWiki with the current French translation by editing the index.php file before you first load the Wiki.
