To me, that seems like a lot of work (and complication) for not much 
gain.
(And also fairly non-wiki-like.)  Note that, at this point, the 
LikePages
plugin can be used to generate a list of Categories or Topics on the 
fly.
(And, I'm working on the ability to embed plugins within the templates,
as well --- this would allow one to do fancy things like put a category
index in a side-bar.)

This is an interesting idea.  It would be easy enough to hack this
into the transform code --- one just needs to settle on a good markup
syntax for comments.  What kinds of things would you use this for?
