Yes, the MAIN branch of the CVS is the development branch (1.3.x),
which is currently in an alpha state and is not guaranteed to work.

(If you want the latest of the 1.2.x code check out the code
tagged 'cvs-1_2-branch' from the CVS.)

That said, I think if you upgrade to the latest CVS version your
problem will go away.  If it doesn't let us know.
