Interesting idea :o) > Well, I don't care about this. If your distribution sucks, fix it, It's not a problem for me to fix it. I'm thinking about our user base. I hate to force people to upgrade to latest versions, do additonal instal= ls,=20 etc. just to be able to use a small app like phpwiki. So why not find a=20 common denominator -- doesn't have to be the lowest though. > Stupid question: you *are* using php4, right? No I'm not. I didn't need the new functionality yet. So why upgrade? (Speed isn't an issue for me either). > Hmm, I disagree here, too. Ignorant users cannot expect to install > software that's not in their distribution. This doesn't excuse deliberately complicating the install process. Actually that user was only ignorant to php specifics. > Otoh, it should be trivial > and would be nice, to have a even simpler install [script]. ``index.ph= p3'' > would be a fine place for bootstrapping the install. Things like: > > * automagically use db name of install directory > * default to mysql if mysql is installed > * show warning message if we don't have permission to create a db That would require the web server having write access to wiki_config. I don't think that this is a good idea. > > Why not use php-files that just include a hash of translated strings? > Yes, this would be Better. Do send a patch. Patch attached below. Apply over your patch. (i.e. latest CVS -> your patch -> this patch) /Arno =00 |
