well, it seems unclear whether there's any activity in the way of
patches, or even anyone around to commit them on behalf of submitters.
sometimes people make better progress on things like this if they
have a greater investment.  sometimes not. :-)

whatever, i think *i* would, so i see no harm in asking the powers
that be on this project for commit access.  if they say no, i'm no
worse off; if they say yes, i could conceivably be better off.

always assuming that the project admins are on this list. :-)
