From what I can tell, and I'm new, is that PHPWiki doesn't support tables. I'm pretty unhappy about that myself. But how unhappy can you get when it's all free, worked on by volunteers? :-)

Apparently, the 1.2.9/10 version is very old. The new 1.3.x version I just downloaded and installed yesterday does support tables and has many more features.

I've downloaded and installed PHPWiki 1.2.9 and everything seems to work except for tables.
When I add code for a table "| cell 1 | cell 2 |" for example, I only see the actual code on my page. PHPWiki doesn't turn it into a table.
Any ideas as to what I'm missing?

On SuSE 9.3 with phpWiki 1.3.11 tables won't appear, neither in old or new layout....
Thanks,
I've used the 1.3 and now and happy with the table support it has.
Now I'm working on linking to files on our network.
One step at a time :)
