Looking at:
* the non-existent CVS activity over the last few weeks;
* 74 bugs in the tracker, most of them not assigned;
* lots of things on the 1.3.4 to-do list not yet addressed;
* poor overall quality, e.g. of documentation etc.;
...please allow me to re-state the question:
It's June 2003. Is there any active member still working on this project?
Please get me right. I am using PhpWiki, and I think it's a good piece of software. However, it is far from production / stable, and I would like to know if this is slowly becoming abandonware. (Which would mean I should start to look elsewhere.)

I have to agree to devsolar.
Will there be any new release in the near future?
The 1.3.4 release created more problems than it solved (I stepped back to 1.3.3 after some days of fighting).
A new release (on 1.3.3 level of stableness) would be very welcome. I see from the code changes that many things have changed behind the scenes, but I do not dare to port all my modifications to an unstable intermediate version, as I did with 1.3.4.

July 13th. Installed 1.3.4 a couple of months ago, no major problems...but would definitely fell more inclined to contribute if I felt someone was actually doing some work.
Q2: If this is a sourceforge project, and there's no activity in it's CVS...where is all the code updates happening?
will get on the list though

End of August, it would seem this project has been abandoned.
I've been looking for something on the lines of this version of wiki software. It's got nice features, but when diving farther into it, it's far from finished.
Are there updates?

I'm not sure how 13 out of 13 developers of this project can all be out of commission but it appears to be dead.
I run phpWiki and would like to see it continue evolving. Perhaps if there are enough people interested in a fork, we can create a new project at sourceforge, import the latest sources from here, and pick up where they left off.

Do any of you guys have managed to get in touch on this subject with steve wainstead (lead developer) ?
Has this subject been discussed on the mailing list as ( Carsten Klapp ) suggested at the beginning of this thread ?
the phpwiki codebase seems very promising to me (plugin architecture, object orientation, database abstraction) and I would be glad to contribute.
can phpwiki still be considered as the main/better codebase php-based wiki around ?
I see that tiki (a wiki rooted CMS) has had a lot of activity recently ; they just issued a "workflow management" plugin for their wiki ; they have .pdf extraction,..
I think there is room for a phpwiki evolution targetted to a "wiki-brick", i.e. a wiki framework with published integration APIs (either PHP or web-service) that would make it easy for other projects (phpnuke, and any other CMS that likes) to integrate it.
what do you think the best way forward is ?

Hello,
PhpWiki development is alive and well! Version 1.3.4 was recently released in December 2002.
The most frequent discussions take place on the phpwiki-talk mailing list rather than in the SF forums; please feel welcome to join.
Sincerely,
Carsten Klapp

July 9th '03. Anything new?
I recently installed 1.3.4 and (so far) I'm not having large problems with it. Jpsy, could you clarify what kind of issues you are referring to?
Also, I would like to get authentication working, preferably integrated with phpbb. Can anyone help me here?

Maybe it's time for it to get forked.

Mid-September and another month has past, development died? Has all the interest gone to another project?
I suppose it's not an issue of "forking" phpWiki but that of "joining" the development team.

Is there a PHP based Wiki alternative?

pmwiki
Releases seem to be annual, though I'm just guessing. My only question would be how to migrate the data to another platform.
mysqldump --xml
;o)
Just kidding. I think we're about a year overdue for another release (entirely my fault, but hey).
