[Phpwebsite-developers] accessing other mysql databases

Is it possible to incorporate pre-existing, non-phpws databases into a phpws-
managed site?

We have a large mysql database of electronic resources.  We would like to 
continue accessing this data dynamically from within a site we are considering 
rebuilding in phpwebsite.  Is this doable?

It's perfectly doable.  phpWebsite is designed to work with a large 
variety of databases.  Depending on the type and structure of your 
pre-existing database, you may most likely require a custom module to be 
written to access & display it the way you want to.

To expand on what Eloi said... Yes, but you want to do this as a
phpWebSite *module* - rebuilding the phpWebSite core would *not* be the
way to go - upgrades, security fixes, etc. become a nightmare since you
essentially would have to maintain a fork of the project.

The phpWebSite module system allows you you seamlessly integrate an
application (complete with whatever database interaction is required)
without disrupting the core. Developer docs are lacking... sorry... but
look at a few modules. I would recommend looking at the photo album as a
good starting point.
