You don't have jpeg support compiled in to PHP. You need to recompile
it with
'--with-gd' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local' '--with-png-dir=/usr'
'--with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6'
Change the path names to match where you've installed the jpeg, png and
xpm libraries if those are different. That gets you full jpeg, png and
X11 bitmap support.
