It sounds like you went way beyond this, but did you know that there *IS* an E-mail notification sent by the system already? The "User Email Contact" in the "User Administration" -> "Settings" screen will automatically be sent a notification anytime a new approval is waiting in the system. As I said, though, it sounds like you went way beyond that anyway, but I just wanted to make sure you knew.
