I like the idea very much, Jeremy. If you're going to give each module developer access to update his/her package through this update system, I can see a need for the individual item permissions to get this to work correctly. We should start thinking about an elegant solution for this with the current permissions structure. +1 Jeremy, let me know if you want some help with design and/or code.
