Category: RFE Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Duplicate Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Greg Meiste (blindman1344) Assigned to: Greg Meiste (blindman1344) Summary: Import existing mailing lists Initial Comment: I run several non-profit organizations and maintain several large mailing lists. I am very excited about the possibility of managing mailing list features through the PWS sites I am establishing for the different orgs. I haven't moved over to the mailing list mod yet because it works well as a website specific list manager, but does not address the overall mailing list needs that I have. These are features that would move the mod from a PWS specific function to a full-featured mailing list manager that works in conjunction with PWS: The mailing list has to be able to be managed independently of the site for mailing list only functions. My exisitng lists are in comma or semi-colon delimited files from other mailing list programs such as MyMail or Mailman. The idea would be to import the existing list and then allow the subscribe menu to add new members. I would also need to export this list so it can be backed up or imported into other programs. Right now there is no way to add addresses that sign-up on the website to the exisiting list that I manage through MyMail. This means I would have to maintain two lists. Also it would be a good idea to allow Admins to add names to a list without having to link it to a site sign-in. This is a list administration function that is necessary for non-website names that are collected. For example, a written sign-up list from an event. ***Bonus Function*** -- duplicate entry checker. I know this is a tall order and may require a re-think of the mod. However, I think everything you have been doing is great and I encourage you to keep making this mod better. ------ Date: 2005-03-01 15:55 Sender: rdoylelmt Logged In: YES user_id=587502 I agree with this request, it would be nice to be able to import a list from Mailman through the administrative panel without having to send out an "opt in" email. I would suggest a textfield format: lis...@ex... lis...@ex... lis...@ex... Regards, Robb Date: 2004-12-02 12:10 Sender: zenmiles Logged In: YES user_id=830149 Nothing like a timely update... :) The file formats are straight forward. The text is a long string of e-mail address seperated by commas or semi-colons. For example: no...@no...;ge...@wh...;ho...@il... On and on for as many addresses as you have. Date: 2004-06-24 09:09 Sender: zenmiles Logged In: YES user_id=830149 Now I'm really looking forward to the next version. The files I need to import are simple text files that can be formatted in a number of ways: coma, semi-colon, or space de-limited. Having the ability to import any one or all of these types would work. Date: 2004-03-20 10:44 Sender: blindman1344 Logged In: YES user_id=780595 I'm looking at including this feature with the 0.6.0 version. Do you have an example or two of the file format(s) that I should be able to import? I'll also use the format on my exported lists. You can attach the file(s) to this tracker. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Greg Meiste (blindman1344) Date: 2008-01-02 14:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=780595 Originator: YES Bulk importing of subscribers is covered by RFE 1274788. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=765094&aid=1274738&group_id=81360 |
