I've a programmer making a script for me where the person who signs up gets his own web site. He asks me to contact my hosting company and get a subdomain for every site generated, that can't be necessary? Can anyone please shedd some light on this problem.

Wildcarded DNS is the solution
it allows you/or user to create a subdomain
however not alll hosting providers allow wildcarded dns
