#78 Story.class :: time limit corrupts long articles

When displaying a *very* long story whith html embedded from article.php3, the script to dies after the time_limit specified on the host and nothing is displayed except this nasty Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 10 seconds exceeded in /home/www/Story.class on line 950

host is running php 4.04 pl1 in safe mode
I don't have access to php.ini and Allow Override is set to none...
Is there an alternative way to display heavy articles in html without using eregi and ereg_replace at every display ?

A cache system for example would be fine .. I know it's used somehow with the blocks, can it be used for the articles as well ?

This isn't really a _bug_ with phpslash, it's more or less a bug with your hosting provider. The default execution time is set to 30 seconds, but they must've reduced it to lighten the load on their webserver. Either tell them to increase the limit, or upgrade their server so it will run the script fast enough.

My understanding is that the ereg stuff only runs when you're looking at the "printer friendly" version, the related links block is cached. Make sure you have the article_updatehits and article_nextprevlinks variables are turned off.
