The script has undergone a major overhaul and is ready again in beta version. User authentication is now handled by sessions rather than cookies. Several new security features were also added.

The program, written in PHP, allows web site operators to offer visitors a profile page on their site with their own URL. Profile pages can be customized as to color and font. A rating system allows visitors to the profile to leave a rating. Members may upload a picture, create a blog, bookmarks and enter and edit text.

Administration is easy and very flexible. This release allows the site owner to use either graphic ads, Google Adsense or both. A working demo is available at http://phpprofiles.linuxwebshop.com to try it out!

Version 3.8 addresses the register_globals issue. With this release, the script will work with regoster_globals either on or off. The Community area has also been improved. Version 3.7 of the popular community building program phpProfiles has been released. The script package allows site owners to offer visitors a web page on their site with their own URL. When a visitor registers, they may create a profile page with a variety of options. Members have their own blog and may create bookmarks on their page. Members may upload a picture to compliment their profile. The Administrator sets up communities that members may join to interact with other members. Members may personalize their page with their choice of colors and fonts. Each Member has their own blog and may set up bookmarks on their page along with personal information and a picture.

The new release no longer relies on universally write-able directories. This release has an installation routine that writes the directories and files that are needed for the profile creation routine so they are owned by the http daemon. The script can create the Member's profile directory since it 'owns' the parent directory. This greatly enhances security since all directories now have the same permissions as most any web directory.... read more

This version of the popular Profile Hosting script addresses some security issues. Development is continuing and version 3.0 is in the works with expanded Administrative functions including a Newsletter feature and site configurations options. Profile users will be able to customize their page's colors and fonts using the Profile Editor rather than simply selecting a template. A Friends feature is being added and the Community features are much improved. The release should be ready by the end of November, 2006!

After nearly a year in development, phpProfiles version 1.2 has been released and is available to download. Development will continue with an eye to expanding features and standardizing the code.
